Washington – Oregon Game & Fish
  2008’s Hottest Rods & Reels
  By Gray Lewis

CastAway Graphite Rods is tapping into the salmon and steelhead market in a big way for 2008.  They sent three prototype rods – a 9-foot, 6inch steelhead spinning rods (CA96LS) rated for 6- to 10-pound test; an 8-foot, 6-inch steelhead casting rod (CA86MB) rated for 8-to 12-pound test; and the 9-foot, 4-inch salmon casting rod (CA94HC).

The CA96LS is a slow-action rod with enough power for casting spinners as well as the finesse for fishing a jig and float.  It employs Fuji guides, a standard hook-keeper and CastAway’s new silicone hook-bait keeper below the reel seat.  The casting rods have Fuji Exposed Reel Seat grips, to give the angler better sensitivity.  Recoil guides can bend all the way to the blank, but bounce back.

The power of the CA94HC makes it ideal for fishing for kings and cohos in the ocean or chasing them up the Columbia.  Its extra length helps prevent tangles when a lot of people crowd the boat.  Rod designer Devon Pearsall said it can handle 24 ounces of lead and still deliver the touch needed to tell if the wobbler or diver is out of tune.

CastAway’s rods come with a lifetime limited five-year replacement warranty.
